# AgentLayer Agent Wallet

> AgentLayer is a local wallet for AI agents. It connects supported hosts to balances, payments, swaps, DeFi, and x402 services while keeping signing and wallet policy on the user's machine.

Use the local wallet when the user wants their own agent to inspect a portfolio, send or receive assets, swap, use DeFi, or pay for an x402 service. Read-only wallet operations can be performed directly; any operation moving funds must follow the wallet's preview, policy, and approval flow. Use the hosted x402 MCP only when a remote MCP connection is needed; it has a narrower product surface than the local wallet.
